Windber Community Building overcomes fire, Winter Wine Fest & fitness classes still held
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — After a municipal building in Somerset County was damaged by a fire last month, their employees want the public to know that they're back "open for business."
The Windber Community Building is home to fitness classes, sporting events, and community traditions.
But since a kitchen fire caused extensive damage in parts of the building, many community members think those things aren't happening anymore.
Crews are now cleaning up -- and everything is "back on" as normal -- according to Matt Grohal, the Recreational Director of the Windber Municipal Authority.
A lot of people thought with the fire, that events would be cancelled or postponed. That's not the case. Everybody has worked diligently to get the Community Building back open, and we're excited that it is.In addition to fitness classes and sporting events resuming, the "Windber Winter Wine Fest" is also still being planned.
It will be held this upcoming Saturday, November 13th inside the Windber Community Building (along Graham Avenue).
This is the Wine Fest's first return since the pandemic cancelled it two years ago.
Organizers of the event say it's perfect for wine tasting and holiday shopping.
They'll have two tasting sessions that day: one from 1:00 - 4:00 and another from 5:00 - 8:00.
Booths featuring wineries and distilleries, catered food, and arts and crafts will be in attendance.
