Surveillance video released after truck slams right into UniMart store in Centre County
HOWARD – Incredible new video Tuesday shows the moment a semitrailer crashed through a UniMart in Centre County.
In the video from the Howard store's surveillance cameras, you can see the truck plowing through the front of the building without warning.
"It was like a big loud thunder but like ... right as if it was in, like, right in your ear ... like I remember the truck," store clerk Rachel Barner said.
Those involved say they’re thankful to be alive and it's still unbelievable that all of this happened. It’s truly remarkable that no one was injured.
Barner remembers the chilling moments when the semitrailer came crashing into the store.
"I was going down making sure I was covering myself to make sure no falling debris would hit me," Barner said.
Barner came into work like any other day but Monday was different.
"He hit the curb I had heard him and then he started to panic and he floored right into the building," Barner said.
The truck driver was reportedly trying to use the UniMart parking lot to turn around.
But instead he hit the curb instead, and then accidentally hit the gas, driving straight into the building.
"He went very very fast, he hit really, really hard, obviously he destroyed the machine outside and it went all the way to the first row," Barner said.
The video shows the truck just missed hitting several tanks of propane. No one was hurt in the crash.
Now, they're assessing the damage.
"This is the whole damage impact front and back," one of the owners said.
The store is expected to remain closed for weeks.
The owners will have a better timeline once they find out how extensive the damage is.
