South Jersey Woman Charged With 110 Counts Of Animal Cruelty: Prosecutor
Diane Haytas of Galloway Township was arrested and charged on Wednesday, May 24, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Detectives from the Galloway Township Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office made a warranted search at 833 E. Moss Mill Road in Galloway Township.
The search warrant was the culmination of a month-long investigation into animal cruelty and neglect occurring at Haytas' residence, the prosecutor said.
A total of 15 dogs, 12 rabbits, 15 birds, five guinea pigs, two ferrets and five cats were seized, the prosecutor said.
The animals were living in "inhumane and unsanitary conditions inside the house, without access to clean water or food," the prosecutor said.
Several of the animals were kept in cages inside a detached garage.
An unspecified number of dead birds were discovered lying on the floor of Haytas' residence, the prosecutor said.
All the live animals were taken to a veterinarian to be evaluated.
Any pets that can no longer be properly cared for, or are no longer wanted can be taken to the Atlantic County Animal Shelter in Pleasantville or the Humane Society in Atlantic City.
