Local sensory garden installs braille labels as part of project with Clairview student
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — In the city of Johnstown, Sandyvale Memorial Gardens & Conservancy hosted a ceremony for its new healing garden on Tuesday.
Highlighting the event was a brailing presentation from a Clairview School student.
The Westmoreland County school offers supportive services for people with autism, visual and hearing impairments, and more.
Sandyvale officials say a student wanted to do a brailing project, so the healing garden was suggested.
Now, all sensory plants in the garden have been identified with braille, so those with limited vision or who are blind will know what they are smelling or touching.
Sandyvale is open every day from dawn to dusk, and is located in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown.
