drive-up food distribution in Johnstown
Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — There’s a light at the end of the tunnel now that Governor Wolf announced COVID restrictions will soon be lifted, but we’re not in the clear just yet. Many people still need help and will in the future to get back on their feet as businesses start get back to normal.
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank has held nearly a dozen drive-up food distributions in Johnstown and will be back again in May. On Wednesday May 12th there will be a drive-up food distribution at the Galleria Mall from noon until 2 p.m. and staff at the food bank urge you to register now to be guaranteed food.
“If you don't sign up and you come there is a chance that lets say all of the families who made a reservation plus additional heads showed up and we don't necessarily have a share available,” said Beth Burrell a Senior Communications Specialist with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Anyone who plans to attend is asked to not show up earlier than an hour and a half beforehand. There are enough food shares for 1,500 vehicles and 50lbs of food will be given per registration. The food will include a variety of dry and shelf stable food, frozen food and fresh produce. You can register here on the food banks website or call them at (412) 460-3663.
“We're going to continue to be here until every one of our neighbors has access to enough food to lead healthy and productive lives so we're committed to this for the long term, and we know that the community is going to continue to support their neighbors that's just what our region does,” said Burrell.
The food bank does plan to have more distributions in the future and encourages you to reach out to them for other assistance if needed until then. If you wish to volunteer and help at the next event you can contact the food bank.
