PETER Kay has confirmed he will not write any more series of Car Share despite BBC pleas.

Bank Holiday Monday’s finale saw 6.4million fans tune in to watch his character John finally hook up with Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson.

BBC bosses would love another series but the comedian, 44, has told them he believes it has ended at the perfect time.

An insider said: “He believes great sitcoms should go out on a high like Fawlty Towers.

“So sadly that’s definitely the end, however much fans might beg for more.”

The finale was the second of two specials written to give closure to fans after the second, and last, series ended on a cliffhanger.

Viewers also called for the catchy song Come Back My Car Share Buddy, which featured in the finale, to be released as a charity single.

The track saw John sing his feelings Kayleigh in a spoof Take That video, leading many to believe the piano ballad may have been penned by Gary Barlow, but sources confirmed Peter Kay had penned the music and lyrics himself.
