At approximately 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, officers from the Carmel Police Department were dispatched to the Mahopac Inn on Lake Boulevard, where there was a reported stabbing following a dispute.

According to police, upon arrival, they ordered 24-year-old Peekskill resident Cain Smalls, the suspected stabber, to stand down and to put his back to the wall, but he instead approached the responding officers, who took him into custody after a struggle. A knife was recovered by police at the scene.

Carmel Police Chief Michael Cazzari said that the Mahopac man who was stabbed in the abdomen at the bar was transported to the Putnam Hospital Center for treatment. His condition was not immediately available on Tuesday.

Smalls was arrested in Peekskill on gun charges last year, according to this Daily Voice report, and last month he reportedly pleaded guilty to a violation in White Plains.

Smalls was charged with a felony count of second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned and is being held at the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is due back in court later this year.
