AN elderly man has died after he was pulled from the sea at an Essex beach.

Emergency services were called to Clacton Pier just after 10.30am this morning.

A man believed to be in his 60s was removed from the water and pronounced dead at the Essex seaside resort.

His death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.

An air ambulance was spotted landing on the beach to give assistance.

An investigation into the tragedy is currently underway.

Local resident Ryan Stacey told the Braintree and Witham Times: "I'm not sure on the situation or what happened exactly, but the man was already out of the water when I arrived.

"I then saw what looked like the emergency services giving the man a drip and treating him, before it looked like he was taken away in the land ambulance.

"It is really sad news and horrible what has happened, and my thoughts go out to his family.

"But more needs to be done to prevent incidents like this from happening."

The incident is the latest in a number of fatal tragedies during the current heatwave.

A woman died on Saturday evening following a collision between a jet ski and a boat in North Wales.

Emergency services were called to the incident in the area of Menai Bridge, Anglesey, at around 7.30pm.

In another incident, a mum in her 30s drowned after jumping into the sea to rescue her son and his friend, it is feared.

The boys had got into difficulty in a sea kayak off the Norfolk coast yesterday, a witness said.

The woman, named locally as Danni, was pulled lifeless from the water after being caught out by the strong current at Waxham.

Members of the public battled to resuscitate the woman before paramedics took over, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
