Major Renovation Planned For The Merriweather Post Pavilion
COLUMBIA, MD (CelebrityAccess) — Plans for major upgrades to The Merriweather Post Pavilion moved forward last week when the Howard County Planning Board approved the developers proposal for $8.4 million worth of renovations at the venerable outdoor concert venue.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the planned upgrades include construction of five new buildings at the Merriweather which will house two concession stands, restrooms, storage, a new box office and a retail store.
Included in the new buildings will be the 9:32 club, which will include an enclosed bar and which is designed to capture the essence of the storied 9:30 Club, which I.M.P. operates in nearby Washington D.C.
The upgrades are part of a larger, 3-stage plan that will see $19 million invested in upgrades at the venue over a 5 year period. The second phase of the plan will see the stage house, back offices and the roof of the venue upgraded, while the third phase will address issues on the east side of the venue, including restrooms and the box office located there, the Sun said.
The renovations at the venue are being overseen by its owner, the Howard Hughes Corp., with assistance from the Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission that is ejected to take over the venue when upgrades are complete. – Staff Writers
