General Hospital's Laura Wright and Wes Ramsey: Relationship Timeline Photos
Ready, Set… Oh, That’s a No-Go
When Laura Wright and Wes Ramsey met in the early 2000s, they were both appearing on Guiding Light — her as Reva Shayne’s sister Cassie Layne, him as Olivia Spencer’s brother Sam. “I was smitten,” he told Michael Fairman TV in 2018, “but I had to keep it to myself,” as his crush was not only married, she was expecting her second child with her husband. “But we laughed,” he added, “and had great conversations.”
… and the Award for Cutest Future Couple Goes to…
Flash-forward to 2017, when Wright was already a decade-plus into her General Hospital run as Carly Corinthos and her marriage had come to an end. That Daytime Emmy weekend, she and Ramsey had a chance encounter. “What seemed to the outside world as a coincidence of circumstance — running in to each other at a party… — I knew instantly in that moment that my life as I knew it was shifting,” said Ramsey in 2021. “When I use words like fate or destiny, I think of that night.”
Mixing Business and Pleasure
Though Wright told Michael Fairman TV that she initially questioned the age difference between herself and Ramsey — he’s not as many years younger as she at first thought — a romance full of love and laughter was begun. That same year, Ramsey was cast by General Hospital as Peter August. “It’s a role that he worked all on his own for,” Wright noted. “He had to screen-test against eight-plus guys, three different auditions, two different days.”
How Sweet It Is
To say that Ramsey’s feelings for Wright only deepened as their relationship progressed might be the understatement of the millennium. A few months in, he Instagrammed to his sweetheart, “There is a light in your eyes I have never seen. A healing in your laughter I have never felt. A truth to your every moment — that relaxes, calming… ” Maybe you can tell that in addition to being an actor, Ramsey is a poet.
The Feeling’s Mutual
Not long after the couple got together, Wright described herself as a “happy me” as she introduced her new beau as her new beau on Instagram. The romantic turn of events was “crazy,” her hashtags suggested, but she was wholly embracing “new beginnings” and observing that wow, “life is beautiful.” More than a year later, she shared that when gazing into her honey’s eyes, “Yep,” there were “butterflies” in her tummy. Then and always.
The Ex Factor
There’s no drama between Wright’s former husband John and her significant other. At first, when the exes’ split up, she said during an episode of State of Mind that she surrendered to “superficial anger… blame… I was very much in a victim state of mind.” But Glennon Doyle’s book Love Warrior “broke my heart open” and helped her become such good friends with her former husband that they celebrated daughter Lauren’s high-school graduation weekend with Ramsey and the kids.
Do We Hear Wedding Bells?
In the fall of 2021, a fan asked Wright during an Instagram Live chat when she and Ramsey were going to tie the knot. “I can’t tell you,” the actress replied. “Right now, we’re good. Life is good. We don’t really feel the need to… It’s not calling us.” It wasn’t that they weren’t happy — just the opposite. “We love our life,” she continued, “and life is good.”
Pressing ‘Paws’
They may not be ready to say “I do,” but Wright and Ramsey do already have a child together — their fur baby Kimba, a mini goldendoodle. On Valentine’s Day 2021, Ramsey Instagrammed his joy at being able to “celebrate the love of two special girls,” Wright and Kimba. “You are both my sweet, miraculous angels, and it is the great honor of my life to love and protect you both.”
Carly + Peter = ?
Over the years, General Hospital viewers have occasionally contemplated the notion of Wright and Ramsey being paired on screen. The actors wouldn’t have minded. Having scenes together is “not awkward at all,” Ramsey told Soaps.com in 2019. “It’s wonderful when the writers do throw the fans a bone, so to speak, and [the characters] do have a chance encounter… That being said, Laura likes to point out that Peter is someone who is not in any way in Carly’s good graces.” Well, yes. There has always been that.
The Secret of Their Success
Wright and Ramsey work as a couple, she suggested during a 2021 episode of The Locher Room, because “we just honestly have so much fun together. We laugh. We have a lot in common, and what we don’t have in common, we get to learn from each other.” There have been challenges along the way, sure. “Meshing two different worlds at this point in your life wasn’t easy at first,” she said. “He was a bachelor, and I was married for 17 years. Bringing that together… it took some maneuvering. But when you’re happy and willing to do it, it really wasn’t that hard.”
The Best of Times, the Worst of Times
When General Hospital took its summer break in 2022, the couple took off for Colorado, where they had what she called an “amazing vacation… not so amazing end.” They tested positive for COVID. The upside, if there was one? As they recuperated, they were able to make it through a lot of the TV shows that they’d wanted to watch, including Midnight Mass and Stranger Things Season 4. Plus, since the soap was on hiatus, Wright wouldn’t have to be recast as Carly.
