Ex-As The World Turns Dan Frazer Dies At Age 90

TV veteran suffers heart attack Sunday.

Variety is reporting that stage, movie and small screen actor Dan Frazer, ex-Det. Dan McClosky on “As The World Turns,” died from cardiac arrest in his New York home on Friday December 16. He was 90.

Frazer began portraying McClosky on “ATWT” in 1989. McClosky was married to the mild-mannered matriarch of the show Nancy Hughes, who was portrayed by Helen Wagner. Toward the end of his storyline, McClosky battled with Alzheimer’s disease, which was respectfully and emotionally played out by the couple. McClosky’s portrayal was touching from the early stages until the character died in 1996.

Aside from his work on “ATWT,” Frazer was also known for his longtime role on all five seasons of “Kojak,” all three versions of “Law & Order,” “Car 54 Where Are You?,” “Route 66,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” “My Favorite Martian,” “McHale’s Navy,” “The Untouchables,” “The Waltons” and “Barney Miller.” On the big screen he appeared in the 1963 Sidney Poitier flick “Lilies of the Field” and two Woody Allen comedies, “Take the Money and Run” and “Bananas.”

Frazer was also an adviser to the Workshop Theater Company and a respected member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
