Coal Tubin' Adeventures Reopens In Time For Memorial Day
Coal (pronounced cool) Tubin’ Adventures, spelled coal as a nod to Pennsylvania, opened officially yesterday, just in time for the holiday. People flocked to the river to enjoy the nice weather and get a breath of fresh air amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As an outdoor recreational activity allowed to reopen, Coal Tubin' Adventures got to work with opening Sunday. They recently had to stop construction on their new location in downtown Johnstown during the coronavirus pandemic, but that didn’t stop them from opening in full swing, all while staying safe.
Co-owner Chad Gontkovic says: "Long distance travel has decreased. People are going to be looking for things to do close to home and we’re the perfect place to do that. We’re hoping to have a big year. We hope to have a big year every year. We don’t want to let COVID-19 stop us from doing something as american as river tubing."
Coal Tubin' Adventures moved a lot of their operation online with set time slots with a limited amount of seats to space people out.
While they would probably normally be able to fit an entire group of people for a time slot in one shuttle, they are following CDC guidelines and making groups have at least one seat in between groups. The shuttle windows will also remain open to circulate air.
They are also maintaining social distancing when customers enter the building and are making people wear mask when entering the building and while riding the shuttle.
"We’ve been watching CDC guidelines. We made sure that everything we planned on doing in the future was in compliance and under the same reopening guidelines as other river destinations and outdoor recreation providers. We’re going with the flow to see how we can correct and update. For the most part, our plan is maintaining everyone’s safety. It’s the most important thing." said Gontkovic
Still, people are glad to oblige and are just happy to be able to get out and enjoy some summer activities.
Ashley Black, a customer and whose birthday is on Memorial Day this year told us: "We’re excited to enjoy some sun, have some beverages and have no worries. Just lay on a tube."
