Officials with the Central PA Humane Society says they were the victims of vandalism Tuesday.

They said the vandals were not able to enter the shelter, so all the animals are safe; however, the outside of the building and the two shelter vehicles were extensively damaged.

Humane Society officials said the boiler room that heats their cattery was destroyed in an attempt to steal the copper piping which caused severe water damage to the entire room.

Officials said several windows were damaged too, including an exhaust fan window into their crematory.

“It is sad that an act of vandalism has such a profound affect not only for our staff and volunteers, but also on a nonprofit organization that endeavors every day to save lives,” officials wrote. “We again thank our supporters and our community for all of your continued support.”

They said the Logan Township Police Department is investigating and they have filed claims with their insurance.

“We are still in disbelief that this would happen to our community,” shelter officials wrote in a Facebook post. “During this time of restricted social gatherings, our fundraisers are cancelled. We are a nonprofit organization, that already struggles daily, financially, to give our animals the best care we possibly can, and we will not stop doing this! We know the insurance will cover parts of the damage, but we are going to need additional funding to fully fix all damages.”
