Brave Teen Boy Rescues 6-Year-Old from a Vicious Dog Attack

In July 2019, when Grant Brown heard screams from across the street, he didn’t hesitate to leave his family’s house in Conroe, Texas. He went to save a 6-year-old boy quickly and saved his life.

At the time of the event, Brown was a teenager. KPRC, an NBC station, said that he was called a hero after he saved Mason Lindeman from a dog attack outside the boy’s home. The video shows the moment the dog jumped on Mason, which made Brown run to the scene to try to get the dog to stop.

As soon as I noticed, I just ran over there without thinking,

Brown said.

I didn’t know how, but I knew I had to get the dog off of the boy. I was just focused on how I could get the dog away from the kid.

When it all started, Mason, the dog, and two other kids were playing outside. Before the dog jumped on Mason and knocked him down, the video showed him on his knees with the animal, acting like they were playing. The kids ran to the boy’s house because they were scared.

My son was just laying on the ground. He’s 6, he kind of knows what to do but he’s never been put in a situation like that,

Mason’s mom, Jillian Lindeman, said.

When Brown walked up and took the dog’s attention away, Mason ran home.

All I see is my son running up to me and he’s got his hand on his head and there [was] blood coming down and everything,

Jillian said.

Brown fought the dog himself and cut his hands in the fight. Mason was rushed to the hospital to get care for his head wound and bruises, and KPRC says that he is expected to be fine.

I just want to give the guy a hug. There’s nothing I can do but just say thank you,

Jillian said in a message to the teen.

Brown’s mother, Crystal Waddel, who saw what happened, says he was clearly scared.

I’m really really proud of him for just taking action to help the young kid,

Waddel said.

According to a source, Montgomery County Animal Control took the dog away and gave the owner a ticket.

A source says that the Conroe Police Department, the City of Conroe, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office all gave Brown awards for his bravery and kindness. On August 5, 2019, the mayor of Conroe declared it Grant Brown Day.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office gave Brown a certificate of thanks and a flag that was flown over the criminal justice facility to show how much they appreciated him. The brave 19-year-old was also given a mug, a patch, and coins by the Conroe Police Department.
