Altoona Curve duo ready for Seinfeld references
ALTOONA -- There have been some dynamic duos in professional baseball over the years, and there's a new one starring in Altoona this summer.
Kramer and Newman is not a Seinfeld spin-off, it's the middle infield for the 2017 Altoona Curve.
The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted shortstop Kevin Newman in the first round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. One round later, came second baseman Kevin Kramer.
This will be the first season they are playing together in Class AA.
"It's a running joke that we hear a lot," Newman said of the many references they hear to the famous Seinfeld characters.
Both players say they are ready for the extra attention this season.
"It was never brought up to me before we started playing together," Kramer said.
"It's all in good fun."
The Curve open the season Thursday in Harrisburg. The home-opener at PNG Field is Thursday, April 13.
